Steve Dembowski understands that he is looking at the fourth attempt and needs to go 99 yards to see that his football playoff proposal comes to fruition.
That does not mean that Milton’s coach is ready to roll.
At the Miaa Soccer Committee meeting on Wednesday, Dembowski said it is time to take the next step and take his plan to the Board of Directors for additional discussion. He failed to hit after the tournament management committee, which overwhelmingly rejected his plan.
“There were many inappropriate comments that put the work of this committee in a dim light,” said Dembowski, referring to the TMC. “(TMC members) Shaun Hart and John Brown made comments on the plan. Negative comments were made that my own school was against when the truth is that our school is in favor and 80 percent of the coaches of the Bay State Conference were in favor of our proposal.
“We need to make clear the board that our sport is in trouble, we have lost 35 programs in the last 12 years. If they decide against it, then I close my lip, but people in this committee have worked too much and our history must be told. “
Not all committee members were convinced that going to the Board with the same proposal was going to move the chains. The president of the Committee, Jay Costa, echoed the feeling of some members that it could be prudent to adjust some of the ideas that have flutter the TMC feathers so that it is something more susceptible.
The committee voted 6-4 in favor of taking another look at things before the deadline of March 1 to approve a format for the autumn season. That meeting will take place on February 12 at 9 am
Since the Committee chose not to approve the current format as it is, many of the points discussed at the meeting were presented. Although most of the points of the bulletin were cut and dried, there was an addition to the format that addressed the problem of schools scheduled to play a consolation game and disconnect the fact.
Last season, a school was supposed to play its second consolation game and discovered on Monday that the opposition would not play, citing a problem of numbers. As a result, the other team ran out of thanksgiving.
The suggestion was that any school that did not fulfill its responsibility to play a game without scheduled game would not be eligible for the postseason the following year.
